When God is on our side, who can stand against us?

The battle belongs to the Lord. When evil comes against us, prayer and praise are the most important defensive weapons we have. We have to recognize our weakness, admit it, and confess to God before seeking help. We need to praise God for He is our help, the Almighty God. Judah was powerless to come against the mighty multitude of their enemies. Their eyes were on God for their salvation.
“And when they began to sing and praise, the LORD set an ambush against the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah, so that they were routed. For the men of Ammon and Moab rose against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, devoting them to destruction, and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, they all helped to destroy one another.” 2 Chron. 20:22-23.
When a great multitude of enemies came against him, Jehoshaphat feared and sought the Lord. He then proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. The entire tribe of Judah gathered themselves together in one accord to seek God’s help. The whole nation was afraid; but Jehoshaphat encouraged his brethren to believe God. Jehoshaphat admitted and confessed Judah’s powerlessness against such forces, and prayed for God to protect his people. God honored his prayer and revealed his plan to fight the battle for Jerusalem himself.
The battle belongs to God and He won the victory on behalf of Judah. We might say that it was not their praise that won the battle, rather it was their faith; yet their praise was sure evidence of their faith. When one really believes the words and promises of God, they cannot but help to praise Him. When we praise God, we proclaim our trust in him and his trustworthiness. We approach him like little children running to their father with arms raised, asking to be lifted and carried by a willing and loving father.
